2026 Collection Laws & Bankruptcy Fundamentals

Wednesday, February 25, 2026 (1:00 PM - 2:30 PM) (CST)

Description

When collecting commercial debts, you need to understand the laws governing creditor-debtor relationships. Generally, the state where the debt originated determines which laws apply. While collection laws vary by state, they share common characteristics you should know. The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) is the primary statute governing commercial credit and has been adopted by all U.S. states. Understanding the UCC helps you address debtor excuses for nonpayment more effectively.
